One Direction, the British boy band, earned the most votes against Carly Rae Jepsen and Lana Del Rey.
Zayn Malik, a member of One Direction, had a picture taken with Jessica Sanchez, American Idol runner-up, which made Twitter news, because of the budding popularity of the two.
Madonna won over Nicki Minaj and One Direction. Rihanna won for her song “Where Have You Been” against “Never Close Our Eyes” by Adam Lambert and “Part of Me” by Katy Perry.
