The “Zero Dark Thirty” film about Osama bin Laden’s manhunt has topped the Box Office this weekend, January 13.
“Haunted House” and “Gangster Squad” came in next. “Zero Dark Thirty” earned $24 million, more than $18 for “Haunted House” and more than $16 million for “Gangster Squad.”
“Zero Dark Thirty” has been previously met with criticism by the CIA, saying such interrogation methods do not exist and were not true. Some quarters went on to say the movie is fantasy and truth woven together. Whatever the real truth is, the audience may never know, and will remain a highly-guarded CIA secret, or is it?
The controversial movie has 5 Oscar nominations that include Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture. It has also been nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture Drama Category, Best Actress, and Best Director. In both award giving bodies, Jessica Chastain was nominated for Best Actress.
“Zero Dark Thirty” stars Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, and Jason Clarke. It is directed and co-produced by Kathryn Bigelow, and distributed by Columbia Pictures.
Other nominees for the Oscars and Golden Globes are “Silver Linings Playbook” “Les Miserables,” “Lincoln,” “Life of Pi,” “Django Unchained,” to name some of them.
The scene in Abbottabad, Pakistan was filmed in Chandigarh, India with some scenes shot at the PEC University of Technology. “Zero Dark Thirty” is expected to rake in millions as it goes on its international tour around the globe with people wanting to know the truth (or lies) about Osama bin Laden’s death on May 2, 2011.
