This is a recap of American Idol 2012 Grand Finale, May 23, which proclaimed Phillip Phillips as the new American Idol of Season 11.
The results show started with a medley from the Top 12 American Idol previous contestants. A duet by American Idol 2012 winner Phillip Phillips and John Fogherty of Creedence Clearwater Revival followed. The hit songs “Bad Moon Rising” and “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” showed how these songs brought out the best from winner Phillip Phillips.
Joshua Ledet then sang with previous American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino “Take Me to the Pilot” by Elton John, followed by the Top 12 girls, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh.
Jessica sang her YouTube hit, “I Will Always Love You,” while the Top 12 boys performed a medley of the Bee Gees.
The duet of Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holliday of “And I Am Telling You” has been touted as the best ever of the American Idol 2012 season 11.
It can be recalled that Jessica has earned plaudits from fans and “non-fans” for her performance of this song during the Top 3 American Idol Performance Show.
The Aerosmith band performed, with Steven Tyler. Finally, the Top 2, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, performed their duet, “Up Where We Belong.”
After the performance, Ryan Seacrest announced the American Idol 2012 winner, and it was Phillip Phillips.
Based on the results, perhaps it’s time that the show did some overhauling of the voting system. They have also to identify if it’s a really singing contest or popularity contest. Does Phillip Phillips deserve to win American Idol 2012?
Only time can tell.
