WATCH: Celebrities Who Have Accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

More and more celebrities have accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to help make people aware of the disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and help in any way they can.

ALS is also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, and is a neurodegenerative disease, which causes the degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons, eventually leading to inability to walk, eat, speak and use the arms and hands.

Some don’t believe in the significance of the challenge but, since celebrities started accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, donations increased significantly to more than 50 million. Previously, not everyone was even aware of ALS.

The rule is for the person performing the challenge to name three people whom he would like to pass the challenge to. Those 3 people will then post a video of themselves doing the challenge, within 24 hours, and then nominating people, in turn, to do the same. Donations are also encouraged.

Why Ice Bucket? It’s because people with ALS are supposed not to feel anything, and challenging people accept the challenge is showing how serious the condition is.
